Street Trees

Since 1997 Santa Barbara Beautiful has financed the planting of more than 12,000 street trees within the City of Santa Barbara, all funded through private donations and fundraising. Those efforts, which support the planting of at least 300 trees a year, require a commitment of $30,000 per year from Santa Barbara Beautiful as it works to improve the quality of life in our unique community by planting trees. This cooperative effort between Santa Barbara Beautiful, its donors, and the City's Parks and Recreation Department along with educational programs, have earned the City the designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation of Tree City USA for over 31 consecutive years.

One of the newest developments in the Street Tree program at Santa Barbara Beautiful was recognizing the need to fund improvements to tree wells. Santa Barbara Beautiful is currently working on a collaborative project with the Santa Barbara Downtown Organization, property owners, and tenants to maximize the growing conditions and enhance the appearance of tree wells in the downtown area. This endeavor will eventually expand to other areas of the city.
