2007
Arbor Day Poster Contest
Santa
Barbara Beautiful was a proud local sponsor of the
Arbor Day 2007 National Poster Contest for the seventh consecutive year. This
year’s theme was
“Trees
are Terrific … And Forests Too!!”
From its humble beginnings in 2000 as a pilot project, the
fledgling program has become an integral component of outreach
to the schools. This year two school districts
participated with a total of five elementary schools. The
contest is open to all fifth graders in the USA.
This year’s local winners (with their families and school
officials) were presented to the Mayor and City Council on
Tuesday, March 6 in honor of California Arbor Day during the
presentation of an Arbor Day Proclamation to Santa Barbara
Beautiful for its work planting over 10,000 trees in the
community.
Local schools participating in the 2007 Arbor
Day National Poster Contest: Adams; Cleveland; Cold
Spring; Franklin; Harding.
The local winners of the national contest also competed at
the State level in Sacramento. One winning poster will
represent California in the national competition held at the
National Arbor Day Foundation headquarters in Nebraska. The
national poster contest winner will be announced in April.
A tree planting and awards ceremony – featuring the poster
contest winner - will be held at each school in honor of
National Arbor Day.
“Trees
are Terrific…
And
Forests Too!!”
Santa Barbara Beautiful would like to thank the school
principals and their contest coordinators for supporting this
