Warm spring air signals the start of Santa Barbara Beautiful outreach to youth and families. Santa Barbara Beautiful hosts an annual Arbor Day poster contest in March for 5th grade school children. Winners receive fun prizes and a photograph with the Mayor! In 2011 finalists were entered into a People’s Choice competition at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival at Alameda Park. The top prize included a commemorative tree plaque with the artist’s name and school. Also in March and April, local schools host their own unique and creative Arbor Day celebrations. Santa Barbara Beautiful and the City of Santa Barbara team up each year to help the schools and students plant trees and recognize the efforts of our youth at these uplifting events. Trees planted today on school campuses promise a learning environment of beauty, shade, and inspiration for generations to come.
